William Sproull

Bill attended Dalhousie Law School between 1990 and 1993, and then articled with the boutique insurance firm of Dyson & Kacaba in 1994. There, he was assisting senior counsel with pre-OMPP tort files from the defence and plaintiff side as well as general litigation, including commercial, bankruptcy and insolvency, and professional liability litigation. Following his call to the Bar in 1995, Bill practiced plaintiff personal injury law and general litigation in Toronto for two years before joining Zarek & Grossman in August, 1997. Among other things, his general litigation and solicitor's experience for those two years included mortgage enforcement for private mortgagees as well as credit unions and banks, commercial litigation, and residential real estate matters.

As a member of Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP, Bill has had carriage of numerous OMPP, Bill 164, Bill 59 and Bill 198 files. His current practice is focused on the representation of insurers directly on the accident benefit side, and indirectly through tort proceedings. He has also handled priority disputes and loss transfer claims between insurers, and subrogation matters. In addition to his casualty practice, Bill also provides support in relation to auto and other property loss files, and has had carriage of some files as well.

Bill has substantial experience at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, where he regularly represent clients at mediation, pre-hearings, arbitration hearings and appeals. Bill has ten reported decisions at FSCO up to 2010 involving entitlement issues, expenses, interim motions, special awards and appeals,  as well as decisions pending on such proceedings as a variation application, and Catastrophic Impairment applications. In addition to his trial, judicial review and appeal experience before the courts, Bill also has considerable experience in court-mandated mediations as well as private ADR as part of his varied law practice.
