Kelly James Smith graduated from the University of Calgary Law School in 1999. While completing his degree he served as a Senior Editor of the Law Review and was a member of the Canadian Championship Jessup Moot team. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001 and has more than 10 years experience defending the interests of insurers, municipalities and self- insured corporations.

He spent much of his career at another reputable Toronto Litigation boutique before starting with Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan effective September 1, 2011.

His practice has focussed on the defence of property and casualty claims, motor vehicle torts, first party and priority insurer issues and other personal injury cases. He also has experience with large loss subrogation cases involving fire and water damage and environmental issues, particularly arising from oil spills.

Since his call to the bar he has served the Ontario Bar Association in a variety of volunteer and elected positions, including on the Executive Committee. He has co-authored project papers for the Canadian Bar Association and has organized and spoken at a host of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) events.
